Aussie 2008 Saab 9-3 update
Most of you won’t remember the name Tonr, but you might remember this pic from the Saab Pride of Ownership competition (finalists named in a few days!)
Tony emailed me to give me some info on aircraft/vehicle manufacturers, but he also gave me an update on this 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector. It seems he’s still one very happy camper.
My Vector is going extremely well, having now done some 5,500 unblemished km.
Have had many positive comments including how comfortable it is to ride in, even in the back (the premium natural leather seating is a dream). I’ve been most impressed with the fuel economy running at 8.5l/100km (have seen 8.0l/100km) and DTE ranges of up to 900km - the advantages of a six speed manual. I’m looking forward to a long trip to Queensland in May.
It’s also is fairly distinctive on the road, having not seen another 2008 model yet. Not like those Subaru Liberty’s - a dime a dozen.
What was even better is that I got a $3000 rebate from my GM Holden card which came in very handy for the daughter’s wedding.
Overall, still rapt with the car.
….and I’m darn pleased to hear it.
Good call on the Liberty, too (cop that, Richo!
)

Check out the Autocar Magazine website for a first drive review of the Saab Turbo X in the UK. Its harsh….
Tony,
Sounds great. Glad to hear that the 2008 is pleasing! Good looking car, hope you have years of enjoyable driving ahead of you.

Well, the Liberty sedan is clearly an old man’s car for a start. Secondly despite all the glare of “quality” at face value, Subaru cuts a lot on insulation from noise to reduce weight. Just wait until Richo goes in to a long trip on the highway, he’ll be deaf by the time he reaches the end of the road. If anything goe for the WRX STI which is dam fast and a hatch, but not a Liberty for God’s sake !!!!
loki,
Thanks for the heads up on that Turbo X one. Not very complimentary at all.
Loki - I did read that article and I was left thinking “That’s it”?.
Just read it. Not as bad as I thought given the comments above. Will cover it shortly….
Swade - lack of supply or, as i suspect, lack of demand. the 08 93 ain’t exactly walking themselves out the door now are they?
Whereas the Subi, like Mazda are selling 1200 per month… does that say more about the car or the people buying them, or perhaps both?
Tony - good luck with the new 9-3. I only got to experience the ride from the back seat when we went to test drive the new convertibles to replace my wife’s ‘05 coming off lease. I’ll get to drive it in a week or two when the 2.0T that we ordered arrives. Sorry we won’t be seeing you on the roads, however - 16000 km and an ocean away.
Richo are you in Sydney? If so I invite you to come to the dealership I work for for a view and test drive of the entire 08 93 Range.
Hi KdSaab, you can reach me on 0413 702 102
That would be grand!
Good one Kdsaab,
I was going to suggest Richo do this. Nice to see a Saab dealer take some initiative.
