A Mont St Michel series????

I received this photo via email last week and it made me wonder if there’s a possibility of getting one of those garden gnome things happening here on the site.

If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, there’s been various instances where garden gnomes or favourite stuffed toys or similar items have been kidnapped by travelling family members and photographed in various places around the world (the French film Amélie is a good example).

Saab’s are much less portable, of course, but still…..

This was sent in by the guys from the Lone Star Saab Club, who had it sent to them by a guy named Mujdat O. It’s his Saab 900 - with Utah plates - photographed near Mont St Michel, near Normandy. Mujdat was on a D-Day memorial trip back in 2005 when this image was recorded.

Those of you with good memories will know that this is the second photo from this location that I’ve shown here this year.

As part of the Saab Pride of Ownership competition, we had an entry from Bart B in Belgium, who also got the abbey from Mont St Michel in the background.

So could there be a series of photos from St Michel?

I don’t think so, but if you’re heading that way and feel like snapping a shot, then feel free to send it in.

UPDATE:

Robin M, our unofficial Saab Ambassador in the UK, has also visited Mont St Michel in his Saab, but unfortunately his photos don’t combine the car and the attraction.

So I’ve combined them for him. Sorry about the small size of the photo, Robin. Will try to make amends later.

It would be good to get one of every model Saab have made to stop in that same spot. I can see Jeff driving there already.

I’m sure the Bush/Cheney bumper sticker went over really well in France back in 2005! ;-)

Interesting that it says “900i” on the back. That must’ve been added in Europe since I don’t think any 900 sold in the U.S. with that badging.

Grip: The car is a European-spec car. It is a facelifted (note the rear bumper) 5-door. Five-door models were available in the US only in 1979 and 1980, if memory serves. That begs the question: why Utah plates on a European car?

My guess is that Mujdat was in the US military and stationed in Europe or Turkey. Still, I would guess that his car would have had temporary generic “US” tags as most do.

That would also go with the Bush/Cheney sticker nicely.

Oh, and you’re absolutely kidding yourself if you think that French people differentiate President Bush and other US presidents. To them, all of the American presidents are right-wing cowboys.

Oops, sorry for the spam, but Robin has a point: Golfhunter, get your scrawny French behind down to the south of France and start snappin’ some photos, tout de suite!

You eagle eye guys, you’re damn right. MUJDAT bought the Saab 900 i 2.1 16V in Belgium 2003, ( at AMBRIOSO SAAB - WATERLOO ) from the first owner; 04 shipped to the USA where I lived for 10 years, I was obliged to title the car in YEWTAH for multiple reasons, then I shipped back to Turkey and now the car sit’s on my driveway in Chalfont St Peter / Bucks UK with the same tags and same BUSH /CHENEY bumper sticker as the Turkish reflective flag.
In France, french people were not very happy with the sticker.
Y’all take care naw ya here !

Mujdat: great story. Is the Utah registration legal in the UK? I would think that you woud have to display something other than that…
