Tuesday Snippets
Further to my Detroit Snippets of last night, I’ve just received another itinerary from Saab Australia. It seems they’re running a special program for the Australian journos. I’m a little unsure as to how obliged I am to comply as it includes a number of things I hadn’t planned on attending and I’m after as much time with the Saab people there as possible
One of those events they’ve included is the GM Style event.
The GM Style event features various celebrities parading down a catwalk accompanied by various new GM production vehicles and concept cars. I don’t think the celebs perform at all, the vast majority are just there to be appreciated for being there. Pardon my French, but in Australia we’d call something like this a wankfest.
If they’re actually performing, that might be different thing all together, so maybe I’ll go along and reserve my judgement. I might need some better clothes, though.
And why is Kid Rock so popular?
——
I was thinking of doing the whole 4 days in Detroit whilst wearing shorts. Just for something different.
——
It seems Cadillac will be stealing the environmental limelight - starting tomorrow.
They’ll be unveiling the pharmaceutically-named Cadillac Provoq, which is written up as “a vision for a petroleum-free future of luxury transportation.”
It’ll appear at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
——
Tim Rokka - my emails to you keep bouncing.

Sales data snippets coming soon.

imho i think that the GM style event is the best and most creative event at the auto show. i would surely go to the auto show JUST for that. but thats just me
as for kid rock. i dont know really. i havent liked one song from him. he seems. [i hope i dont offend someone by saying this word, but]:
old. and stuck between genres of music. idk
and swade, i highly advise you NOT to wear shorts [anywhere] in north america this time of year. trust me, when you get to detroit and feel all the snow and ice on your legs, you will be begging for long pants. detroit is really really cold. lol.
haha this reminds me of the movie cool runnings when the jamaican guys got off the plane in calgary in -20F weather with tangtops and short shorts. haha
Kid Rock (sigh). Isn’t he like 60 years old now? At any rate he is a complete mess all the time – but perhaps GM is bringing the ‘white rapper’ crowd to Cobo Center this weekend?
Have fun with that – it does bring out an impressive star crowd every year which always surprises me. I wonder who will walk with the Turbo X on stage.
Swade, I say don’t be a coward and go for the shorts! The looks will be sure to attract attention, and when approached just say you’re part of a marketing campaign raising awareness for the new 9-3 Convertible - the four season four seater. Vorsprung durch Vinterland.
If questioned further, simply excuse yourself as an ignorant Swede used to -15 Celsius right by mid-June. Plus, tell ya what mate, most Americans won’t even differentiate your Aussie accent from Swedish, unless they have seen an Ikea commercial recently.
Re Kid Rock, you’ve got me there. He’s from Detroit, so that’d be the tie-in.
Those GM Style events have been lame. Like you said some celebrity comes out on the catwalk and you get to marvel that GM wasted enough money to pay this person to stand next to one of their products for photo ops. Sorry to be so negative, but if I were you I’d skip it and spend more time with Saab people. That is, unless you’re star-struck.
Don’t wear shorts in Detroit in January. You’ll catch some nasty cold and we don’t have socialized medicine here. You’ll end up in a county-run clinic waiting room the duration of your stay.
On other blogs the Cadillac Provoq concept is rumored to be GM’s hydrogen fuel cell variant of the series hybrid E-Flex platform (Chevy Volt is the gasoline/ethanol variant, Opel Flextreme is the diesel variant). This would make sense as it could compete with BMW’s Hydrogen7.
who cares about this “kid rock” (don’t know what that is) when there is Angus McKinnon Young…
Kid rock became even more famous when he started humping pamela anderson
In Swedish, ‘krock’ means crash or collision…
kid rock’s popularity confuses me, too.
chalk it up as right place/right time.
i saw him play a side stage at a warped
tour show a few years ago. i was one
of about 5 people who showed up
for his gig and it SUCKED.
Kid Rock is truly an abomination. I first heard him when he was doing this quasi-rap thing over 1970’s Southern rock athems. He called himself DJ Kid Rock back then. Awful.
He loves to hang out in Nashville and steal ideas from the Country musicians. Every six or nine months he makes the local news by punching somebody at a strip club or watering hole.
Ignore him.
I’ve seen your legs mate. For Detroit’s sake please don’t wear shorts.
See you when you get back as i am still in Wales ( Cymru am Byth )
Kid Rock…the guy is good with the turntables…problem is, he keeps trying to do other stuff. Like that song with Sheryl Crow. My aunt loves him, for some reason. I think it’s because he did something with Hank Williams Jr. once.
The Provoq reminds me a lot of that Cien concept Cadillac did a few years ago.
Scratch that last line, I hadn’t seen the right Provoq pictures. Some idiot put up a picture of the Cien when they mentioned the Provoq on some other auto website.
In french , we would say ” un ramassis de branleurs “
