Trick my Truck, Saab Style

Those of you outside the United States, and maybe those of you outside the regional influence of country music here in the US, are likely not familiar with the cable TV series, Trick My Truck. Think of it as the twangy cousin of the thumpin’ Pimp My Ride.

These Saabs started life as automobiles and have, one way or another, become trucks or “utes” as you may say in Oz.

From Saabrobz, here’s a Saab pickup that began life as a Saab 99. Clever use of the rear windshield and the ‘C’ pillar sheetmetal, I think.

Liftarn has posted a 9000 modified into a flatbed transport suitable for transporting another car!

And, of course, a past favorite on TS from Anti in Estonia, we have this great-looking NG900 truck conversion. Anti: Any updates? We’d all like to know!

I’m not a big fan of Trick My Truck, because, and this will sound dumb, they only do trucks. As much as I usually hate the end result of an episode of Pimp My Ride, it’s fun seeing the different kind of cars kids are driving around. My favorite was the tiny little blonde girl that was driving a GMC (or Chevy, I can’t remember) 1-ton panel truck. It was so incongruous.

      Saabs into trucks!
Those ‘upper liberals’ might get mad and cranky.

We’d be in deep granola then, wouldn’t we? EnG

Jeff: I agree. However, Pimp My Ride is funny. My fave was the kid that couldn’t drive well enough to be licensed — his relatively new car was trashed. On a later episode, he asked if they would fix his car again since he’d already wrecked it a couple of times more. Hilarious.

It has it’s moments. Another one I liked was when they did the Badminton-playing math tutor’s Dodge Caravan. He did NOT fit in with everyone else on the show. It was great. Plus I loved the time they put a decibel-ometer in a car.

They did a Cutlass Supreme in the first season…they NBA’d it up.

The first season of Pimp My Ride was ok…. I liked it better then because it was somewhat reasonable things they did to the cars. As the seasons went on, it just got more and more outlandish.

Though the ice-cream truck episode was awesome and a great concept

DMR and J - Hey, if you look at -amino conversions, of any variety, and can’t see the sheer awesome, you have no soul, end of argument.

Well, I’m not sure that I’m ready to call them soulless, but I agree with your thought about the cars. I always liked the El Camino, and I think that they could sell again if Chevy were to make an Impala- or Malibu-based El Camino. EnG

Rumor has it that the Commodore ute is coming to America as the Pontiac G8.

I’m just saying, ‘mino conversions are always cool, especially when the conversion in question is a weird car like a Saab. BMWs are even better, because it pisses off BMW owners so much. The best, however, is the Porschemino.
