Saturday Snippets
While Swade becomes one with the GM homeland, here are a few snippets to take a look at.
First off, I’m proud to say that TS sponsor, Saab of Hunterdon had a hand in the interview with Bob Sinclair posted on Saabhistory.com that I referenced in my post on Mr. Sinclair. Their sponsorship preserved his words for all of us to hear. Thanks, gents!!

Secondly, someone has created and posted a 20-image screen Saab screen saver at Postopia. I generally don’t need a screen saver being a notebook user, but if you like such a thing, check it out. The sample image looks promising…

For all of you that are, like me, anxiously awaiting Swade’s report from the NAIAS, here’s a little preview posted by GM_Blogs on Flickr:
Every little detail must be taken care of…

Finally, if you haven’t checked out the customer photo gallery on the State of Nine website, you should. The prices at State of Nine are a little, um, high if you ask me, but they have some customers that have some fine lookin’ Saabs. Here’s a quick sample:

Wow, that ‘08 ‘vert sure looks great in white. You know, white is the new black. It’s funny that white is quickly becoming the popular color in the auto industry after years of being considered a rental car color. Saab’s concept cars have traditionally been white (I know the EV-1 was an exception) or white-ish (Snow Silver) so what does Saab do now that white’s becoming popular? They come out with a Black Turbo! Gotta’ love Saab always “finding their own road”.
State of Nine might not have the lowest prices, but they sure to support the Saab community. They even had a tent at the Saab Owners’ Convention in Troy, Michigan this past August. I’ve bought from them before and nothing but good things to say about the experience. This is not a plug as I have no vested financial interest in the company, but just wanted to share my experience with you all.
Hey Gripen - not to detract from the NAIAS coverage, but did you see the story about an environmental group threatening to sue Saab over BioPower ads in Europe? - Firends of the Earth (also covered on ABG)
“Friends of the Earth Europe calls on the company to remove all wording and imagery from its website and brochures which associate its cars with nature or the protection of the environment. It must also withdraw false claims that driving a Saab reduces CO2 emissions.”
IMO - press releases like this are sensationalistic. The truth of the matter seems to be somewhere in the middle.
TimJ: I did see that a couple of hours ago. I forwarded a link to Swade, but he’s kinda’ busy right now. I was thinking about posting it here myself, but eggs is doing a great job of holding down the fort with posts here so I figured Swade might mention it later in a “snippets” post. I’m not sure it deserves a post of its own.
Personally, I think it’s ludicrous. A company tries to do something good for the environment (even if it does benefit the bottom line) and they get jumped on by environmentalists for not going far enough. Some of these extremist greenie groups have way too much time on their hands and are poorly selecting their battles, IMHO.
I saw this yesterday morning and got all up in a lather about it. So I posted some comments on saabcentral, saabscene and saabnet about it. The thread at saabcentral got pretty long. Click here if you want to read it.
Damn treehuggers are never happy. They won’t be satisfied until we’re all riding bikes and using some sort of kale-driven generator for home power and burying people in newspaper.
I’m exaggerating, obviously, but sometimes, it seems like that. Sometimes.
