Saab Pride - New Mexico Style
Here’s another entry in the Saab Pride of Ownership competition and I don’t know what’s more breathtaking - the car or the scene.
It’s from Peter S, who I’m sure is thanking Elkparts even as you read this.

This is my 1989 900 turbo sedan, which in the States is getting to be quite rare. It has been in the family since 1997, and has been mine now for seven years. No, it does not have a name. I love it far more than I probably should. My ‘06 SportCombi Aero is faster, smoother, quieter, and has far more buttons, yet it has not and will not replace the old one. If I eventually have a son, and he proves himself worthy, then maybe, just maybe I’ll let him take it to the prom.
The setting for these shots is my current home, Albuquerque, New Mexico. We have an impressive landform called the Sandia Crest, a prominent outcropping that I figured would be the only way to get a decent picture when considering a whole world of Saab-lovers and interesting locales. A curvy road leads you up towards them and just before the La Luz trailhead I chose a pulloff at sunrise to try and capture my car. On the way back down towards the city you can see forever, so there is a shot in that direction as well.
Cheers to a great 2008!

Wow. That car rocks! Vive la C900!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love that car !!!!
Those C900 sedans were so elegant- a sort of ‘top hat’ style.
The rear windscreen shape is very Saab.
A very stylish stance m’lord
I love ‘em.
Fellow New Mexican (from Santa Fe)….. Nice car!
One of my all time favorite cars. BEAUTIFUL!!!
The rear wheels look like they are about to fall off…
Otherwise very impressive pics.
I can hear those wheels scratching against wheelarches…
Amazing how that car just doesn’t date or age the way a comparable A4 or 3-series would…..the saloon always had the cleanest lines.
We had three of these in the family, two white, one red.
Peter S.:
Nice car. Always nice to see such well-taken-care-of “older” cars.
Mark,
You know, the first A4s were produced in ‘93 or ‘94, so there was no comparable A4. (But I do know what you’re saying about the timeless design of the C900.) I think that early A4s still look good, and every bit as good as Saab’s contemporary in the NG900. As for the BMW3-series, I have to disagree. If someone told me I had to buy a 1989 car (which would actually be a great thing for me) I would have a hard time deciding between an SPG and a 3-Series. (Okay, and e30 M3 would top the list, hands down, but price would be significantly higher.) Any time I see a well-kept C900 or e30, I just want one.
Let’s see, a Beryl Green SPG (Or Edwardian Grey), and a Lochsilber (or white) 325iS. That’d do it!

Yes, the rear wheels will rub if an adult with a little extra baggage rides in the backseat. That is excuse enough for me to make them wait for their turn in the front passenger seat:)
The stock wheels on these cars were 5.5 inches wide. I currently use 7.5 inchers. So the handling is wonderful, though a bit compromised on a snowy road.
Absolutely stunning and timeless indeed.
(But no BMW can tip on this one - maybe just a ’70s CS coupĂ©).
The more i see those 900’s, the more i wished i kept my 900.
Wicked, never liked this model but i do now…
Beautiful!
I don’t see to many 900 sedans, but they do look good - especially this one!
“TORQSTR” no way not from a SAAB
One of the few 900 sedans i’ve seen that look REALLY good.
My choice of 900 would still be the 3 door though.
Looking at these pictures, makes me wana cry over what i did to my 4 door salon. Had it had another engine I would have sendt it to the scrapheap. It was an 900C, the one with carburetor, had it been an 900i or 900T thing would have been different.
I miss my 4 door salon
