Saab Pride - in Germany!

Time for yet another entry in the Saab Pride of Ownership competition. And this entry comes from a place that could do with a lot more Saab pride - Germany.

Our owner is Martin, and I must say that the licence plates on his Saab 9000 are most alluring. I’m sure that site supporters and competition prize donators, Elkparts, would agree.

——

I know I´m a bit late, but the Saab I will compete with came to me just some days ago, on Sunday, the 23rd of December. So it´s a real Christmas gift for my wife and me!

I checked the internet once in a while, because in 2008 I wanted to buy a Saab 9000 Aero. And then I saw this beauty. It is a 1996 9000 turbo anniversary. 2.0 ltr engine - 150 HP stock, but hirsched to 215 HP! So it’s fast, very fast.

I bought it in a town called Mannheim, approx 300 km away and drove it home almost the whole way too fast. Yes, even German autobahns have speed limits most of the way, but in this car you don´t realise how fast you´re actually going …

The rims are a bit special, I have never seen these on a Saab - even when these wheels are very popular in Germany for Mercedes. Yesterday I had the chance to go to the car wash and get the car cleaned - having the competition in mind.

So here are the pictures.

Saab Germany

I´m living in the city of Essen in Germany.

Being in the Ruhr area, the most attracting landmarks are from the time of coal mining and steel production back in the 60’s. So I took most of the pictures at “Zeche Zollverein”, a Unesco world cultural heritage site.

And - do you remember? In 2005, the international Saab meeting took place at Zollverein! I found the official meeting banner:

IntSaab2005

Also located in Essen, is the Gartenstadt Margarethenhöhe, where I took some of the other pictures. “Gartenstadt” means “garden city”
I found no English description, but here are some pictures, where you can see why this little “town in town” is called “garden city”.

Saab Germany

So, that´s the story about that little Saab 9000 and I hope the pictures are of some interest to you and all the readers of trollhattansaab.net!

Greetings from germany,
Martin (MOK24)

      “Little Saab 9000″?!?! Who are
you kidding - that’s a BIG boy in Saab
      land! ;-)
      On a serious note:
NICE 9k! I love those wheels! That
car truly stands up to the surrounding
      Mercedes/BMW/Audi crowd there!
Could you possibly let us have a peak
      under the hood?
Nice pix, too! What camera are you
using? It looks like the wide
angle shots that my friend’s Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 takes.

Oh - nice license plate, too.
      Very clever!
      ;-)

some more pictures are at the link provided. Camera is a Panasonic FX-8, which is rather similar to the LX2, I think.

      Greetings, Martin

Martin! I like what you’ve done with your ELK9000! Awesome job! I’ve always wanted to visit Germany and your photos have captured that for me, with your Saab as the shining star. What a great way to start my morning here at the office. Kudos! :)

Fantastic pictures and a great looking CSE. 215 BHP should give a very rewarding experiance. The Garden City loks very quaint! Enjoy your SAAB.

Cheers for the camera info., Martin!

SWADE: if you haven’t already thunk it, PLEASE consider (in your spare time ;-) publishing a hard-cover Saab Pride book. The text & pix featured here is consistently amazing.
Saab should front you the funds for this project, IMO, since it will generate tons of interest in the Saab brand from folks who don’t really think/care about cars…which are about 97% of the people on this planet, IMO.

nice photos! i love your car. i also like your book idea, which is something i’ve been mulling over b/c i think the saab pride idea would have tremendous appeal. if all else fails, there are ways online to do the layout and publishing of terrific quality hardcover books, and i’m sure people wouldn’t mind paying. there don’t seem to be many saab books out there, and a saab owner book would be especially attractive. of course there are copyright issues to consider though.

I’ll pay for a Saab Pride book, and i don’t even
      have a Saab (yet)!

Swade: Can regular posters here have signed edidions?
      ;-)

In my point of view you are the winner! :)
      Fantastic pictures!
Thank you for this beautiful car!!!

This is an awesome 9000 and another fine example of the impact that tasteful wheels do to any Saab. Despite these being more for Mercs but still, they marry very well indeed. Congratulations Martin, you have an enviable vehicle !!!
