Saab Pride in Big D
It’s time again for another entry in the Saab Pride of Ownership competition, proudly brought to you by Elkparts, the letters ‘T’ and ‘S’ and the number 9.
Today’s entry is from David W, in Dallas.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. I hope your Christmas was a good one as mine sure was. Not only did I get the camera I was so desperately needing for this competition, but I got a new puppy as well! Another Australian Cattle Dog to go along with my Catahoula and first ACD (not that I am trying to sway the judging in any way…photo enclosed.)
My SAAB photo is taken at one of the highest points in Dallas, which I think can be classified as a hill. The significance is that it overlooks White Rock Lake and downtown Dallas. White Rock Lake is more of a large pond, appx. 1254 acres/5.1 sq km that was constructed in 1910 to help with the city’s water shortage. In the early 1930’s, the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Dallas Park Board began developing the shores of the lake into parkland in response to residential development in the area. In 1943, the federal government used barracks at Winfrey Point to house World War II German prisoners of war who had served in Erwin Rommel’s Afrika Korps.

This is my third SAAB, a 2007 60th anniversary 9-3 convertible, with the 20th anniversary convertible wheels. It is in what I view as my favorite SAAB color, Ice Blue. It is quite stunning with the black and gray anniversary interior. Until SAAB, I had never purchased the same make twice. I have had Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, Infiniti, Honda and VW. I have also owned a 1972 MGB for the last 26 years, but for everyday driving, nothing has given me the same sense of specialness that can only come from a SAAB. Driving home, top down, sun on your face, so relaxing even after a long day at work and in rush hour traffic!
Thank you,
David W

I see that it’s business as usual here… Only been asleep for 8 hours, and now I have 4 new post to read…
Great car, great humor in the story. Dallas, hills? A laugh riot! Interesting tidbit about the POW location. I’ll have to check that out next time I’m in Dallas.
I was surprised about the WW2 history. There is a good website about the lake and it’s history, namely the ghostly Lady of the Lake…

Hey! Great color on the SAAB! And a double threat too! Another SAAB and MGB owner (’74)!
