I’m always held in wonder whenever I look closely at the details of a good scale model.
I have a number of 1:43 scale model Saabs, which I display in my office and generally I look at them and just admire the shape n general. They’re not there for me to look at cars in detail, but a glance in their direction reminds me what Saabs look like.
These scale models, however, strike me as being rather exceptional. They’re a whole lot smaller than the models I’ve got. At 1:87 scale they’re a little over 5 centimetres in length. These were recently purchased by Bjørn L in Norway, and he was kind enough to send in some photos.

Besides being more-than-average interested in Saab, I’m also an avid H0 scale model railroader, I am often on the lookout for new items in the same scale. Models of Saabs are quite rare, unfortunately, but now the German company Brekina has made three models of Saab 96. They are delivered in red, blue and green.
The detailing of these cars are quite magnificent, bear in mind that they are less than 5 cm (2 inches) long. There are chromed parts, painted details and Saab labels barely visible without using a magnifying glass. It was a bit difficult to take good pictures of them, you can see than even light dust is visible in the close-up pictures.

That’s a Pride of Ownership entry if I ever saw one.
What’s the local landmark?
Hm, another Norwegian hooked on HO railroading and both miniature cars and fullscale SAABs….. Nice! I’ll use Bjørn’s words as my own: Besides being more-than-average interested in Saab, I’m also an avid H0 scale model railroader, I am often on the lookout for new items in the same scale.
I have today ordered those HO scale SAABs! Thanks for the tip!
So were these Saab models intentionally designed to compliment model railroad sets or is it just a coincidence they’re in the same scale?
Pretty unique collectible. Thanks for sharing.
Gripen, I think they were designed to compliment model railroadset in Scale HO (1:87). Take a look at Brekina’s site, alot of nice stuff there: http://www.eurorailhobbies.com/ERH/brekina.asp
