Um…I honestly can’t tell if that was a serious question or some sort of veiled insult.

If it was the former, then yes, I did.

If it was the latter, then that was really mean and I’m really straining not to say what’s on my mind.

Eggs, the bandwagon marketing technique has been used for hundreds of years. There’s a time and a place for stats comparisons and trying to describe the “feeling” of the car, but mass Christmas mail isn’t it.

I haven’t gotten any Christmas cards.

I’m a bit late in replying, but after reading the comments of saabyurk and Tedjs, I’m wondering if I pass you men as I drive around NE Ohio. Look for a light blue XJ6 with “ARUPERT” on the plate.

Alex: speaking as one who cerainly can keep up with the Jonses, that foolishness isn’t the issue. The issue is that I think that’s a terrible way to sell cars. Where is the information on the car? Why not say something about the feeling of driving the car? The neighbors’ envy? That’s the best you can do? I think not.

The only people who have a problem with “keeping up with the jones’s” messages are people who themselves can’t keep up…

If it sells more saabs then it’s OK in my book, the brand desperately needs to attract new buyers and I can’t fault any ad campaign that manages to do that.

We get a traditional snail-mail Christmas card EVERY year from our Saab dealership, VOB Saab in Rockville. I also get one every year (as well as a birthday card) from the GM dealer in Michigan where I leased a car in 2003.

Besides, the Saab one is not keeping up with the Jones’. Buying a Lexus because they did is keeping up with the Jones’. Not sure if you have those Lexus holiday to remember TV ads down there.
