Nevitz forwarded a Saab email to me yesterday that left me a little confused for a couple of reasons.

First of all, it was a European version of Saab’s newsletters – referring to diesels etc – and Nevitz doesn’t live in Europe. That’s a small matter, though.

What confused me more was the content of the email.

Lynx Yellow Saab

First of all, the good news. It appears that Saab’s new yellow is finally available in some markets for the convertible range for 2008. The email states that “the new 9-3 Convertible is now available in a distinctive new color: Lynx Yellow.

But therein lies the confusion – the name.

All previous conversations about this color have used the name Saffron Yellow. There were several emails that came in using this name and even references to it by name, by Saab people, when I was in Sweden back in June.

I’ve taken a look at the Saab UK website but it’s not up on that one yet. That was my first checkpoint as the Saab email from Nevitz was in English. It’s not up on the SaabUSA website, either.

It IS on the Swedish Saab site, however, and it IS referred to as Lynx Yellow there.

Lynx Saab

So, if you were aspiring to a Saffron Yellow Saab 9-3 Convertible in the new year, you may need to adjust your thinking just a little – see comments.

We’ll wait and see if it’s a case of different names for different markets (which does happen), but for the moment it’s Lynx Yellow in Sweden.

The information that I have from Saab is that it is Saffron Yellow, BC 308.

This colour is specific to the 2008 9-3 Convertible.

The display at the New England Auto Show showed it as Saffron Yellow (Coming 2008).

Is saffron yellow a metallic color? I do not know for sure, but it always seemed to me to be a solid color when I saw it on those verts cruising around. Either way, this lynx yellow seems to be included in with the metallic paints.

I can’t find much about it, but this site lists saffron yellow as a solid color.

The car and color look great, a little loud for me, but still looks good.

OK, so different names for different markets, then. Fair enough.

I thought I was going bonkers when I first saw the Lynx name. I much prefer the name Saffron Yellow and hated the thought of having it wrong all this time.

Wait, is the mystery solved? If saffron is a solid color and lynx is metallic (and the swedish site puts it in with the metallics), then it would seem that they are two different yellows, although that would seem odd to me, since they are very close in color otherwise.

Can we please get Arctic White on a sedan as its the only thing that would tempt me away from Snow Silver?

That Saffron Yellow with a black interior. Buzzzzz! :)

Who cares, it’s an awesome shade of yellow no matter what it’s called.

Though, the solid/metallic explanation makes sense to me.

    I like the yellow.

I though for sure you had gotten a copy of the e-mail, Swade. I was shocked to see it too. I heard on here it was to be Saffron Yellow also, but Lynx kinda is edgy too.

I just wanna know if it will make it’s way to the U.S., they can call it Cadillac Yellow for all I care. On second thought…

From Saab’s own information I can only find one yellow paint. It is listed as “Saffron Yellow, BC 308″.

BC is the ‘Body Colour’ and 308 is the paint colour code.

Again, from Saab’s information, Saffron Yellow appears to be a metallic paint.

Looks like a great colour, I have some photos of one from Sweden in June on the launch day.

Put that color on a SportCombi and I’m sold!
