Brits: Own a unique piece of Saab history!

When you need a little entertainment, there’s always eBay.

Today’s find is a complete burgundy interior from a right-hand-drive classic 900.

When I say complete, I mean that the whole interior is burgundy! The dash (which has a couple of cracks), the dash fascia, the seats, the carpet, the interior panels, everything! You’ll feel completely engulfed in 1985 all over again! It even has the OEM stereo head unit and the speaker grilles are burgundy, too!

Certainly a classic. Since these were not available in North America, I’ve never actually seen one. In fact, the only place I’ve seen a picture of an interior like this is in the European 900 brochures from that era.

Check it out here. It’s currently going for £150.

Hmm, nice! Reminds me though how poorly fitting and cheaply textured the dashboards of old were - do people really think the current 9-3 is that bad?

My dad had several classic 900s and not one had properly aligned glovebox lids, all had wonky buttons and cheap feeling rotary dials, afterthought rear wiper buttons and no damping on ashtrays etc.

I feel nostalgic.. Reminds me of the burgundy interior of my dads first 9000 turbo (1987) which he had when I was young.. Can’t really understand why anyone would order their interior in burgundy, but then again, I was born in the 80’s so perhaps that’s why..

Well, back in the day, you couldn’t order the interior color independently of the exterior color here in the U.S. If you wanted a black car, it came with tan interior. Period. If you wanted white, it came with burgundy, etc. The color combinations changed from year to year, but you couldn’t specify interior color — it was what it was. EnG

That backseat with it’s overstuffed cushions is simply over the top. Love it. It looks like something out of an early 80’s Buick LeSabre or Elektra. Gotta love the 80’s…

Now those are some warm, fuzzy memories that take me back to my 1985 900 Turbo a number of years ago. It was a silver two door hatch with burgundy interior (but black dashboard fortunately). It turns out that my Saab was an original European version (left hand drive) that an ex-military guy had purchased new while stationed overseas and then had shipped back to Canada. I picked it up in 1995 for about $8000 and immediately knew that Saabs were built for people like me who appreciate attention to details, inspired performance and rock solid utility. Those classic 900s truly are iconic.

I’m getting all misty-eyed. *sniff* EnG

That’s my interior! Except I got the leather instead of the velour. But other than that, that’s in my driveway right now :-)
