Saab: Nothing on Earth comes close

Here’s one I hadn’t seen before.

Did they do this one too early? How good would it have looked with a 1988 Aero in full kit with whale tail etc?

It’s probably one that spoke to the converted more than those who didn’t know the car, but still, a great ad.

Strange… Watch when it’s exactly 1:01 min left of the movie. There it looks like the Saab has the steering wheel on the left side.

For all those Top Gear aficionados, you’ll note that bits of this clip were used for the review of the 9-5 Aero in Season 3. Pity it was beaten around the track by the Sea Harrier!

I thin the best Saab commercial is the one with the 9000 that gets into a horrible accident. And the narrator says “after the owner walked away with minor injuries the insurance company called it a total loss, the owner disagrees , so do we”!

That car probably needs new paint on the roof…. :-)

This is the advert that got Tony Scott the job of directing Top Gun.

It would be fun to see a 2007-version of this very same commercial, with a 9-3 Turbo X instead ;) (And yes, I know I said that I didn’t want Saab to play so much around the whole “born from jets” slogan, but still, this would be a classic!)

      Swade,

That’s been on my site since 2006. You can credit me and the Saab Club of the U.K. for providing that to Saabhistory

Check the Videos page in 1985, it is there along with every other video.

Hmm, remember it well, and even remember the excrutiating pain when the car appears with its stainelss steel hubs :(

Oh how do Saab manage to hit the big concepts yet lose the whole impact by details, such as using the bottom of the range model!! I know that might say something about their confidence in thewhole range, but advertising is a shallow business and if you’re not going to ’show-off’, there’s really no point!
