Tweaking the 2008 9-3 Fascia

Once again, when Swade’s away, eggsngrits will play. Or something like that anyway.

I’ve made my opinions known here at TrollhattanSaab by commenting on various posts about the new 9-3 (and just about everything else - ha). I’m not overly fond of the chrome fog lamp surrounds on the lower fascia — it just makes the front a little busy to me.

Sounds like a great time for some Gimp. For those of you that don’t know, Gimp is the freeware doppelganger to Photoshop, which is in the “it-is-definitely-not-free-to-the-tune-of-$600-a-copy” ware category.

Here’s my take.

9-3 lower fascia tweak two

Eggs, sorry, but leave it out! Looks best as TRollhattan intended - you can always remove it when you get yours…I like the extra brightwork :)

Eggs - aren’t the shiny foglamps only for Aero models? The sedan on the Saab 9-3 Reborn site and several of the combi and sedan Gallery shots seem to have matte black surrounds.

I agree with Mark. I like the extra shiny bits.

Me too. I like it better with the extra fog lamps chrome.

Yup, I like the chrome (I was a kid in the 50’s). Just add some turbine rims and it’s perfect :-)

I love the chrome surround. Let those who don’t like it get a base model and tune it to Aero specs. It looks different from anything on the road. I am glad that Saab thought of it first.
By the way all my non-Saab friends love the new look.

      eggs,

Trollhattan got it right, in my view. With the chrome bits, the car is more distinctive, more SAAB.

    • Kroum said:

I agree. The chrome surrounds give the car more character.

I can’t believe so many people like the chrome. It’s so tacky, and distracting.

Today at work, I happen to park my 9-3 MY01 next to a Volvo V40 MY01, a VW Passat (4-5 years old or so) and a BMW 3-something (a couple of years old). Guess which car had the most chrome in the front? Right, my Saab. So it’s there and has always been. Easy to forget.

I like the matte black surrounds myself, that way you focus in on the new grille!

Very Darth Vader my young Egg-walker.

I’d take Ted’s line: not just the matt chrome, but turbines as well. That’ll scramble a few eggs!

      Back to work now….

I am with the majority regarding the chrome. I think it makes the front even more aggressive and distinct. I want to see it in the flesh before I make a final judgment, but I really like what I see so far. Removing the chrome makes this Aero look like an Linear SE.

      gimp rulez!

      i’ll take chrome, plz.

Yeah, chrome definitely makes it look more Saab-like. Y’know how all the Saab fighter jets were all chromed out!

Nothing makes a Scandinavian beauty look more like a Chevy than lots and lots of chrome!
