The Spirit of Saab is too expensive for me.

Like many of you fellow Saab aficionados, I like driving Saabs, looking at Saabs, talking about Saabs and debating all things Saaby on the internet. One of the things that I like is the true kinship, the same automotive enthusiasm for a small but potent brand. A car that isn’t for the masses. A car that is fun and makes a lot of sense, too.

One could say that I enjoy the “Spirit of Saab” as much as the next guy. But at US$800 for a new copy, it’s WAY too expensive for me.

The Spirit of Saab

Of course, I’m referring to the blue book written a few years ago by Rolf Bleeker. The Spirit of Saab is reputed to be a great read. I was keen to read it myself, but even the used copies are going for US$375 on Amazon!

Unless this little aura-filled talisman wards off transmission failure or future crashes, I can live without it.

  1. Is it more expensive than the one posted below??? Or twice as expensive because it’s in two posts???

Richo, you simply MUST lay off the shoe polish. A second post below? To what are you referring?

  2. Wow! you’ve got to be kidding me!

I had no idea it’s that expensive – the other day I was at Nottingham SAAB and this book was laying on their coffee table in the reception room.

I just flipped throught it without thinking much of it – now I just realised it’s the most expensive book I’ve ever held in my hands. Good thing I didn’t torn any page!

  3. I bought my copy about a year ago and only paid $20 or so. It’s an interesting read but $800 seems a bit too much.. Anyone want to make an offer of $300? Free shipping!

  4. I don’t get it? Is the ink made out of the blood of BMW owners?

No, that one’s free — but you have to buy the four-year service plan to read it. eggsngrits

  5. I’ve never understood the price of it on Amazon either. It’d be interesting to see how many have sold on Amazon over the years. I got one handed to me in Sweden by Christer at Saab. He’s probably got a box of ‘em.

It’s a good read, but not $800 worth. Not $100 worth, I’d say.
