Saabrina Update!
Regular readers will remember Saabrina the electric 1995 Saab 900 SE. Mark, Saabrina’s owner, builder and chief engineer, found her with a bad engine and decided that she would be the ideal candidate for his dream to convert a traditional gasoline-engined car into an all-electric vehicle.
He’s done it right — custom machined parts, high-quality electric vehicle (EV) gear, and weeks of trial-and-error.
As of late last month, Mark has the electric motor aligned and installed (quite a task, I am sure), the power steering works, the air conditioning is connected and working and the motor controller works as planned. He is currently (no pun intended) waiting on the battery charger and a few other odds and ends. It appears that completion is near, and he’s already got a head for a few future mods (lighter weight components for better efficiency, for one)!

This guy is my hero. The car is even “treehugger green”! Instead of putting that “electric” badge on the rear and on the grille he should have somehow removed the “SE” from the hatch and fashioned an “EV” with the same font. It’s a 900 EV!
I would love to see if this guy could bring this car out to next year’s SOC in Massachusetts. I’m curious as to what its 0 - 60 time would be. Maybe he can drag race a Viggen at the SOC! The Viggen would have a higher top speed, but there’s a very good chance the 900EV could have a faster 0-60 time.
What do you suppose that tow hitch on the back is for?
