Classic 900 Loving Finlandia Style, Part 2
I don’t know Elji. He apparently lives in Kuala Lumpur and has a thing for Saabs. But then again, don’t we all. Have a thing for Saabs, that is.
Elji has a rare Saab — a facelifted 900 CD. I don’t know the exact year. He’s taken great pains and lots of care to make this fine automobile look as good as it does — and it is magnificent.
Elji’s 900 CD is equipped with a 2.3l 16-valve turbocharged engine that’s been modded — he’s used pistons from a Subaru for one thing, and it appears that he’s increased the turbo boost as well. The pictures from the website are detailed, but they only show certain aspects of the engine build, not the whole project from start to finish. I’ve e-mailed Elji — perhaps he will grace us with a few comments about the car. In the meantime, enjoy. All the pictures are here.
It appears that Elji’s fitted seats from a 9000 Aero into the 900 CD. In a regular production C900, the Aero seats take up most of the backseat leg room — not so in the 900 CD!
And, for the 900 CD fans, here’s the money shot.
Great car, Elji.

Sweet car - especially those seats. Nice. Possibly the best I’ve seen in a custom saab. Best ever perhaps.
Side point - who gave Eggs the “create a link” button?
Personal challenge Eggs, create a sentence ( a paragraph?) that is all a links. I’m betting you’ll do it without breaking a sweat.
PT — It has been done.
I’ve just noticed something peculiar about Elji’s car that I hadn’t noticed before — he’s got directionals on the front and SPG/Aero wheels on the back. I’ll bet that the rear hubs are ‘87 or older and the front are ‘88 or newer.
Eggs - you’re right. Another definition of hybrid i guess? Then again, the Finlandia seems to be a mixed bag in general so its kind of fitting.
That really is great upholstery LG.
Phew. Work’s been really busy - no time to troll the net for SAAB things
The car’s got 93mm pistons, so it makes it around 2.1l. The head has lifted previously due to lots of boost (30psi), so the boost is kept lower now.
Car doesn’t see many miles, as I want to keep it the pearler that it is. The rear axle has since been swapped for the later model item, and the wheels no longer look like that. still 15″ with 9000 brakes behind them.
Please drop by in Malaysia if you guys have a chance. Would really love to meet up and extend your SAAB experience in Malaysia.
I love my SAABs!
