Here in the U.S. they recalled my 2001 9-5 Aero for this issue. I had it done free of cost a few weeks ago.

ctm: Yes, I was being vaguely facetious. I'll take the chance to resonate the statement by Swade anytime that I can, something about the 9-2x going down as the most reliable Saab in history... *sigh*

Before I get berraged -- Remember I traded in mine for a MY07 Combi, and lovin' every damn second of it with no regrets! Just that I had a great 2 year affair with the Saabaru, and that's what got me hooked into the marque. That's what got my wife hooked too, as she's driving that 9-5 I mention above. ;) Good times!

The best way I know of is the way I described.
And, to the best of my knowledge, doing the job in fifteen minutes, including going to get the car, pulling it in, lifting and lowering the car, pulling it out and filling out the paperwork was among the fastest times ever on that job.
I celebrated that fact by doing another one. :(

That's certainly better news than I heard! I kinda figured there'd be a better way... *scratches head*.

Hmm, never had a recall on the 9-2x. *takes shelter*

Paid 9/10's of an hour on the 9-3.
Takes me fifteen minutes. The tank DOES NOT need to come all the way out.

Simply unbolt the straps and the fill tube, drop the rear of the tank until it wedges in front of the axle, screw the clip in and reassemble.

I asked my local dealer too, as I had just got a notice last month for my wife's MY03 9-5. He said the fix for the 9-5 should take 20 minutes, as the area is quite easily accessable. He mentioned there is an access door in the trunk to get to the fuel pump and was not a big deal.

However, to fix a 9-3 is an all day'er, or two, as there is much to do to even access the affected area. He mentioned that on the 9-3's that the entire fuel tank, yes the tank, had to be removed.

Fun!
