Saab 9000 Griffin
The month of 9000 lovin continues……
The 9000 Griffin was a luxury model released in the early 1990s and it’s one Saab for which there’s not much info available on the ‘net. Which is why I’m posting this video, another one from the vault at SaabHistory.com.
The quickest description of the 9000 Griffin that I can give is to say that as far as I know there were no options available. This was Saab’s quintessential luxury sedan. Enjoy the clip.

Wow, the interior of that car sure looked beautiful when new!
I’d sure like to own one, except for one problem: it was the CD edition which meant… no hatch!
The ad mentioned that only 400 were to be sold in the U.S. that year. Was the Griffin Edition only sold in the U.S.? Was it only sold that year? If so, I think that puts its rarity along the lines of the “Springtime in Sweden” edition SAAB.
I’ve only seen a couple of these — sadly, they had deteriorated substantially. One was for sale in Iowa last year, and I think $1500 would have taken it. IIRC it needed quite a bit of body work.
There’s one in decent shape for sale in New Hampshire, $2000, check this

They were sold in other markets too. We have a few of them here in Tasmania. I’d hate to think what they cost here when new. I reckon they would have been close to $100,000 and a new 9-5 Aero is way less than that today.
Nice car, but no hatch and an automatic tranny? They sure as hell didn’t make that car for me.

Here is one in Australia, and it looks in the pictures to be in good condition.
