Trollhattan Saab has changed!
The site you're viewing now is the original Trollhattan Saab weblog, though it's now an archive only and no new material is posted here. As of February 2009, all new material is posted at our new site - Saabs United.
Please join us at Saabs United and get your daily Saab fix from Saab sources all around the world.
This isn’t the first time I’ve shown a Saab from Africa. Danni in Namibia has had a couple of posts focus on his 9-5 Aero, and there’s more to come from him shortly, but….
Team Sanddodgers are progressing well in their charity run from the UK to Banjul (The Gambia). As a reminder, here’s what they have to do:
The Challenge is to simply drive the route from Plymouth to Banjul (on a limited budget) with the principle aim of helping some Charitable causes in Senegal and The Gambia. The car must be Left Hand Drive, cost less than £100 and you may only spend £15 preparing it for the journey.
The Saab connection is that they’re doing this in a 1978 Saab 99 Turbo (arctic white with a green interior – just like my old one, sniff sniff)
If I’m reading the website correctly, they’ve covered around 2,500 miles so far and in the video, at least, the car seems to be running reasonably well, although they do mention on their blog that the heater is currently stuck “on”. Not the best thing when you’re heading in the African desert.
Enjoy, and do check out their website for the running diary and other video instalments.
If for nothing else, just click “play” to hear one of the greatest bands in the world, Radiohead, playing the appropriately titled “The Bends”.

The heater being stuck on may be a good thing for the engine though. The old strokers didn’t have a good cooling system and often had to be driven with the heater on to keep from boiling over.

Ted stole my thunder!
Great music, great video! I’ll have to take a listen to ‘the Bends’ later today. It’s been a while.
Thom Yorke is a genius, but he’s also, well, not fully sane.

Yea Radiohead! My fav…
I think Radiohead and Saab go well together. They should do some publicity mumbo-jumbo… Although that kinda thing might be against RAdiohead’s ways altogether… I cant wait for new album…
