For each of the last three years, the Saab Car Club of Australia has participated in the Shannons Classic Car Show here in Hobart. It’s a chance for local vehicle owners to show off their pride and joy and there certainly was a wide variety of cars on display.
It’s an interesting exercise. It certainly gives you an appreciation for the number of cars sitting in people’s garages around the state. It also reinforces the fact that we’re all different and have different tastes and interests. There was a number of vehicles at the show this year that I really liked and a few that just made me shake my head and wonder “Why?” Then again, the owners of those vehicles would probably say the same about Saabs.
There’s a few Saab shots here on the front and more Saabs and other vehicles after the jump. Click on most of the pics to enlarge them.

The absolute best of the Porsches present at the show – a 1982 911SC

A Ford Capri, with a full interior job and scissor doors.

On of these Corvettes is lying. Can you tell which one?
That’s right. One has it’s wheel pointed like it’s capable of taking a corner….

There was plenty of Aussie steel on display. This is my favourite Australian car, a 1964 EH Holden Premier.

I was thinking of trying to line up a race between this and the 9000 Aero. Both have to hit the start at 40mph….

This is one of the quinessential Aussie muscle cars, a GT Ford Falcon. A prime original example can easily sell for six figures.

The Jags were out in numbers…..

……including one of the ugliest Jags I’ve ever seen in the metal, this XKR.

Like I said at the start, each person has their own passion…..

This looks like a Lotus at first glance. Click on it to reveal the truth.

As was the Saint. For some reason Volvo thought that going from this to boxy was a progression in design…..

And some big Austin Healey eyes

An old Saab. Or is it a Cadillac? I can never tell the difference.

More Aussie muscle. A Torana GTR-XU1. Perhaps the cleanest and best detailed car there.

Not sure why. I just liked it.

Great show. I visited Shannons Melbourne garage and did a feature on it in Classic Cars magazine way back in 1996-ish.
Shannons seem to put a pretty smart show wherever they put up.
That Vw badge looks rare -nice piece of design.
Viggen looks good too- along with that silver 900 Classic turbo.
Great pics, looks like fun. What’s that white econobox? Nothing that I recognize.
I’ve always been a sucker for the Volvo 1800 and those older Jags.
And, just to show you the taste is subjective, I like the XKR. Of course, saying that it’s the ugliest Jag still puts it in pretty good stead.
How did that polish come up? Worth the $$$?
