This really bugs me. After reading the article, I see a chance for SAAB/GM to be an innovative leader, first in the world to provide a dramatic improvement in engine performance in every way, but GM bean counters shelve the idea. SAAB is supposed to be a PREMIUM brand. Premium brands should be expected to introduce new technologies at some expense because there are a lot of buyers that will spend the money to be the first users of a new technology--like is happening somewhat with hybrids which offer only questionable improvement.
I guess GM will wait until Toyota inroduces models with variable compression, gets all the credit for the innovative improvement, and then GM will react and play catchup again.
